Yesterday we received our shipment of Solar Panels. The 12 amp 400 watt array is rated for high durability and efficiency even in shaded conditions – this contributed greatly to our decision to choose these panels. They will stick flat to the top of the bus, they can even be walked on! The Flex Power Mats are much tougher than traditional panels. The set of 3 panels also came with a charge controller to meter the charging of the batteries. Normally these panels retail at around $800 a piece, but I was able to buy all three and the controller with cable included for just over $1000 shipped on eBay.(!) We can’t wait to get these on the bus! We still have batteries and an inverter to purchase.
At the recommendation of our electric designer, Kyle, we have also been collecting these high efficiency LED ribbon lights that can be cut or linked to make different sizes and patterns of light. They are highly adjustable in hue, brightness, and pattern. These LEDs provide a highly controllable lighting environment for practical work lighting to decorative atomosphere lighting. By the time our conversion is through, all the lights will be LED. Healthier and more responsible than fluorescents, they are also the most energy efficient lights on the market.
